On Saturday October 5, 2019 the Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution were at the forefront of commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution at the War Office in Lebanon, Connecticut. This year marked the 250th Anniversary of Connecticut's Revolutionary War "Rebel Governor" Jonathan Trumbull taking the oath of office as Governor of Connecticut in 1769. Gov. Trumbull was the only patriot governor of the thirteen colonies to serve prior to, during, and after the American Revolution (1769-1784). This gave Connecticut a steady government leading up to, and throughout the Revolutionary War, which helped earn Connecticut the title of the Provision State. "The many sudden and urgent calls of Washington for men, money, and materials in the dark days of the Revolution were met in the old War Office with that promptness and adequacy which have given to our commonwealth the historical title of the Provision State."[2] Although unsourced, General George Washington is believed to have said, "But for Jonathan Trumbull, the war would not have been won."
It was also a special day because the CTSSAR chartered the newly formed Gov. Jonathan Trumbull Branch #13 of the Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, and the President General of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution was in attendance for the ceremonies.
